The Joomla Core Analyzer
What's Covered
The Joomla Core Analyzer provides two kinds of coverage: content it reads directly, and Joomla features that display media belonging to that content.
Explicitly Covered
These are read directly by the Joomla Core Analyzer:
- Articles — intro images, full article images, media embedded in article content, article links, and article options.
- Article Categories — category descriptions, category images, and category options.
- Custom HTML Modules — media referenced inside the module's content.
- Menu Items — media stored in menu item options, including menu images and page-heading settings.
- Template CSS — media referenced from CSS, SCSS, and LESS files in your site's templates.
Covered by Association
Some Joomla modules display content from the sources above rather than storing their own media. As long as the media comes from an explicitly covered source, that media is already covered.
This includes Joomla article modules such as:
- Latest Articles
- Newsflash
- Articles – Category
- Popular
- Related Items
- Archived Articles
What's Not Covered
The important distinction is where the media relationship is stored. A module can display media from an explicitly covered source without needing separate coverage. But if a module or extension stores its own media references, the Joomla Core Analyzer must know how to read them.
The Joomla Core Analyzer does not explicitly cover:
- Categories outside Joomla Articles — such as Contact, Banner, News Feed, or third-party extension categories.
- Media stored by other module types — Custom HTML is explicitly covered. Other modules are covered only when the media they display belongs to an explicitly covered source, such as an Article or Article Category.
- Third-party extension data — media references stored in an extension's own database tables require appropriate Analyzer coverage.
